Genomics Africa Fellow: Dr. Leonard Kingwara

Dr. Leonard Kingwarais the Head, Genomic and Molecular Surveillance Laboratory Unit, Minister of Health, Kenya.

Dr. Leonard Kingwara  came to this fellowship at KRISP in University of KwaZulu-Natal and CERI at Stellenbosch University to receive training on sequencing and bioinformatics in order to increase genomics surveillance of pathogens in Kenya.

Duration of the fellowship: 3 September 2022. – 1 of September 2023

Trained received: Hands-on sequencing on Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) and Illumina COVID-seq sequencing and advanced bioinformatics analysis. Dr. Kingwara will work with CERI and KRISP teams for one year to advance genomic analysis of pathogens in Kenya.
