Felix Maingi is a Molecular Scientist and Bioinformatician at Connect Afya Medlynks in Nairobi, Kenya. With a Master’s degree, he works in the lab’s next-generation sequencing (NGS) division, supporting research in oncology for Kenya and East Africa. Felix is keen to attend training to enhance his DNA library preparation skills, which will improve his ability to generate high-quality genomic data for cancer research. He plans to share the skills learned during the training with his colleagues to strengthen the lab’s capabilities in oncology diagnostics and research. Joyce expressed her intent to attend the training to expand her knowledge of efficient library preparation protocols, particularly in oncology. Her lab, which focuses on advancing cancer genomics research in Africa, is working on critical projects aimed at identifying key biomarkers for diagnostic tool development and drug discovery. By attending the training, Joyce aimed to enhance her team’s capabilities in generating accurate data using appropriate library preparation kits and workflows. She also saw this opportunity as a chance to network and explore potential collaborations with other teams and institutions. This training was hosted in collaboration with Roche Diagnostics.

This was particularly important as her team at SYNLAB Ghana plans to expand their molecular lab to include NGS-based genetic testing. The training aimed to enhance her ability to set up NGS workflows and train other staff members on these advanced techniques. This training was hosted in collaboration with Roche Diagnostics.
