GENOMICS AFRICA FELLOW: Nqobile Mthembu

Nqobile Mthembu is a medical scientist pursuing a Master’s in Medical Science at the KwaZulu-Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform (KRISP) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). Her project advances genomic surveillance of respiratory viruses by exploring targeted sequencing methods to identify an efficient single assay for detecting and sequencing common respiratory viruses. Her work aims to optimize costs and generate comprehensive genomic data, addressing the high costs of next-generation sequencing. The training workshop has provided valuable insights and practical tips for her research.
